Based in Middle Tennessee, Jim Huffnagle, MD, is a retired family physician and bariatrician. In addition to over 30 years of medical practice experience in Tennessee, Jim Huffnagle, MD, also has hospital leadership, long-term care, and business ownership experience.
Dr. Huffnagle began his professional career in the US Army Medical Corps in July 1992. He served as a family physician and obstetrician for active-duty personnel, retirees, and their families at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Promoted to the rank of Major, he also trained residents and medical students and received several honors.
Following his military service, Dr. Huffnagle held numerous leadership positions, including medical director roles at Dickson County Nursing Home, Trinity Hospice, and Horizon Medical Center. At these, he provided direct care to elderly patients and coordinated ongoing care with physicians.
In 2009, Dr. Huffnagle launched the Center for Medical Weight Loss, PC, a medical weight loss company. He grew it into a highly successful multi-clinic practice before retiring in 2024 with his three state licenses intact. Even in retirement, though, he continues to emphasize comprehensive weight loss care - one that focuses on the whole patient, not just prescribing generic protocols.
A former member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Huffnagle earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1989 after earning a BS in biological sciences and German from the University of Southern California. He completed his family medicine residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
